DEW 3 Free Batteries and Saving an Electric Screwdriver

In the third episode of Dystopian Electronics workshop we salvage lithium ion cells from discarded vapes. Then we use one of the batteries to fix an old electric screwdriver that hasn’t worked in years.

In the first episode of Dystopian Electronics workshop we scavenge some electronics from a trash pile. Then we test some of them out, cleaning up what we can use, and harvesting parts from an old wireless phone.

Goo Gone Adhesive Remover

I seriously love this stuff. It is my first go to to remove stickers, adhesive, grime, or anything stuck on something it shouldn’t be. It is super gentle, so if the adhesive is dried out spray some on and let it soak in. Plus it smells good!

ZTS Inc. MBT-1 Multi-Battery Tester

This battery tester will test almost any battery that you come across. Some batteries will test good on a volt meter, but when you actually use them are dead. This meter puts the battery under load, getting a much more accurate reading of remaining capacity.

ZTS also makes a Mini version of this tester that tests the five most common styles of batteries, I chose to go with the larger version that test thirteen different styles of batteries.

wisTek LCR Meter

This LCR (inductance, capacitance, resistance) meter will test a component and tell you what it is, as well as some of the specifications for that component. It will tell you the pinout for diodes, transistors and many other components. One neat additional feature is that it will check IR remotes, actually telling you the code that the remote sends.

It is powered by an internal battery that charges with a micro USB cable, which is included in the package. Three probe wires are also included for attaching to components that won’t fit in the ZIF socket. There are several different variations of this meter available on the internet, but this is the one I chose to spend my money on.
